Claire joined the AB Glass team in October 2019 from a shop fitting and construction firm. She wanted to put her Degree in Project and Construction Management, which she completed in 2013 at what was then called Swansea Metropolitan University, to good use and was seeking a new challenge – one she found here at AB Glass.
“It was time to spread my wings and move to the next stage of my career,” says Claire.
Prior to completing her degree, she had worked as a painter and decorator and then for Babcock Defence Services at RAF Valley in Anglesey where she worked in the engine bay looking after Hawk Jets and the Red Arrows. She moved to Swansea when she met her partner.
She says her role at AB Glass is very enjoyable since every project presents unique challenges. She is currently working on a large student accommodation site in Swansea as well as two very large new education buildings. “Every project is different, and the variety means the role is very interesting,” she says.
She also believes the construction/manufacturing is a good industry to work in. Despite the low number of women in the industry, she says this not something she has ever focused on or considered.
“My career has progressed in a very natural way. When I moved to Swansea, I decided to do something new and secured a place in uni. My career moved more into construction because of the course I did. I never stopped to think there are not many women in this industry. More diversity would be nice, but I have never experienced any barriers personally.”
When not managing projects for AB Glass, Claire likes to read and spend time with her friends and family including two step children.
