AB Glass, the Swansea-based leading aluminium manufacturing and installation company, has reached a key milestone on a landmark building in Swansea, as the firm remains open, manufacturing and installing on multiple sites – keeping the UK economy moving in the process.
AB Glass is working alongside global construction specialist ISG to deliver a £40 million student high-rise accommodation block at Mariner Street, Swansea. It has now completed phase one of the project, which is transforming Swansea’s skyline in that part of the city.
Reaching 19 stories and 78 metres tall, the building will house 780 students and be the second tallest in the city.
AB Glass is fabricating and installing Kawneer AA720e windows along with AA720 and AA190 swing doors in the new building. Due to various acoustic requirements on the build, it is also supplying acoustic glass and trickle vents, which help protect the end users from external noise.
The project will be the forth scheme ISG has delivered for Fusion Student. The new development will open in time for the start of the 2021 academic year and it represents a key part of Swansea’s expansive regeneration plans.
Alan Brayley, managing director at AB Glass, said:
“In these challenging times, we are proud to say that our staff and subcontractors have continued working while following all government guidelines around onsite safety and social distancing. While these are worrying times, we feel we are also playing a key role in keeping the economy moving – something the UK government has acknowledged and thanked the construction industry for. Likewise, I would like to again take this opportunity to thank all our staff, clients and stakeholders for all their support through challenging times.”
