Mentoring a new generation of talent

Here at AB Glass, we completely believe in the importance of attracting the next generation of talent into the industry. And that means working with young people, schools and universities at every opportunity.

Before COVID-19, we regularly welcomed schools to our premises for a tour and Q&A with our Managing Director, Alan Brayley. We also support industry apprenticeship initiatives and work closely with high education institutions locally – to help make a difference.

Now, working within the restrictions of COVID-19-related rules, we are delighted to be supporting Swansea University’s School of Management by conducting real-time, mock job interviews with students completing the second year of the course.

With some students a mere 12 months from applying for jobs in the real world, we feel the experience of being grilled by a real businessman represents an invaluable experience to the students. Alan has been doing the interviews via Teams walking the students through a range of scenarios and asking the type of tough questions that they will get in the real world.

Alan Brayley, our Managing Director, said: “It has been a real pleasure and a real eye opener for me. It is great to see so many fantastic students coming through the course at Swansea University who are very motivated and well versed in business.

“That said, moving from education to the real world is a step-up for anyone, and hopefully, doing these interviews will help them when they move into the real world and are applying for jobs against other, very capable, candidates. If I can make a difference and help them secure the career they want, I will be very happy.”
