Here at AB Glass, we believe that aluminium windows and doors are the perfect fusion of slick style and optimum performance. It is no wonder they are one of the most popular products installed in both domestic and commercial projects across the UK.
However, there are some common misconceptions people seem to have about aluminium products. They are expensive, they do not last, they rust, etc.
In this post, we will investigate and debunk some of the apparent myths associated with aluminium:
It rusts
When discussing metal materials and their use in outdoor products, such as windows exposed to the elements, some people immediately think of rust. However, only iron, or iron alloys such as steel, can rust.
As a material, aluminium is non-rusting and is generally highly resistant to corrosion, meaning the product is an excellent choice for bracing the outdoors – rust free!
It does not last
As we have mentioned, aluminium does not rust, and it is highly resistant to weathering. This is due to the fact the material is extremely durable and strong.
Contrary to some people’s beliefs, the strength of aluminium means the product can actually last for a long time, and if installed by experts, require very little maintenance.
It is too cold
Many people seem to view metal as a cold material, and therefore have a misconception that aluminium windows and doors result in a chilly building.
Luckily, aluminium products are great at keeping heat within buildings and homes.
It is not environmentally friendly
Concerns around carbon footprints and the environment are growing. As they should, people now demand that products and material used be as eco-friendly as possible.
Some may think that as a manufacturing material, aluminium is not environmentally friendly.
However, aluminium is a sustainable material that is 100% recyclable and is far more eco-friendly when compared to other window and door products such as uPVC.
In addition, thanks to the fact aluminium products are great at keeping the heat inside buildings, this material is also great for reducing the need for heating and energy consumption.
It is too expensive
There is a misconception that aluminium windows and doors are costly.
In fact, aluminium products fall somewhat in a middle ground in terms of pricing, its more expensive than uPVC, but usually cheaper than steel or timber.
Due to the long product life, lower heating costs, and reduced maintenance needs, aluminium can be considered to be cost-effective in the long run.
It does not look good
This sentiment is subjective; therefore, it is hard to really call this statement a myth or misconception.
But still, we would make the argument that aluminium windows and doors are very stylish and perfect for giving a building that modern slick look.
Thanks again to the strength and durability of the material, aluminium products can be shaped into a number of design possibilities and can also be used to support the weight of large glass surface areas.
We hope that after reading this post you have a better understanding of aluminium windows and doors.
