Get to know our senior team – Managing Director, Nigel Harvey

As part of this blog series, we get to know the senior figures that help manage, improve and sustain our company on a day-to-day basis. In this edition, we sat down with newly-appointed Managing Director, Nigel Harvey, who has spent the best part of 16 years working for here at AB Glass.

Nigel has a plethora of experience within the sector, having joined AB Glass in 2005. He is responsible for spearheading the implementation of Lean Manufacturing into the business, while also improving project management and customer care.

Now, as Managing Director, he is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the entire company and his expertise is vital in maintaining the coveted ISO 9001 and ensures our commitment to client satisfaction at all stages, from design to completion.

Nigel’s appointment was part of our leadership succession plan announced in late 2021. Full details of this can be found here. His appointment was followed by the unveiling of our new Head of Finance and Accounts, Kirsty James.

Nigel first joined the company as a General Manager, before moving on to become Director of Operations and eventually, Managing Director. He has seen many changes in the industry over the years including a dedication to corporate social responsibility and working within the community, something that AB Glass prides itself on. Another encouraging change identified by Nigel was the increased focus on employee mental health and well-being, which is now a high priority for companies in any industry.

Nigel’s continued commitment to development within the business has been a significant contributor to the success that has been seen, and in combination with our Chairman, Alan Brayley, helped establish AB Glass as one of Wales’ leading specialists in the manufacture and installation of aluminium facades, curtain walling, windows, doors and structural glass assemblies for both the domestic and commercial markets.

Like Alan, Nigel is also an avid supporter of Armed Forces organisations having served in the Royal Navy for 14 years in a communications role. He accumulated a lot of sea time over his years of service including living and serving in Italy for 3 years. We are a company with Armed Forces at its roots, and we try to instil the same values and dedication in everything we do.

When asked about his favourite projects from his time at AB Glass, Nigel identified the project at Bournemouth University, for its complexity, from design to installation which resulted in a stunning end result.

Nigel Harvey, Our Managing Director, said:

“Although the Bournemouth University project is my personal favourite, the list is endless. We have been involved with many fantastic contractors and had the opportunity to work on amazing projects over the years.

“Another one that also stands out is the Fusion Student Accommodation in Swansea. The limited space available made it difficult logistically for deliveries and installation, but encountering these hurdles meant the finished project was that much more rewarding.

“Similarly, the Humanities building at Bristol University was located between two listed buildings which increased the difficulty of the project and again provided a challenging approach to logistics. This was at the time our largest project to date and one we were extremely happy with when completed.”
